  • Clustering...

Pick a word and cluster it...

    Whisper
    Flag
    Patch
    Leap
    Candle
    Slide
    Cup
    Sing
    Brush
    Float

So... my 2nd assignment (after a bit of reading) is to write a story derived from at least one of those words in that list above... I can use up to five in the story which cannot exceed 1000 characters. You think it should be easy, right?

Go ahead... try it yourself... oh, what's clustering?

    * Take one of those words above and write it down on a piece of paper. Now, without stopping to think, write out other words that come to mind when you think of that word around that word and then connect them to the original word by lines or arrows. If a secondary word immediately suggests another, scribble that word down and see where it leads you. Whenever you find yourself pausing for more than a second or two, return to your original word.

After a couple of minutes, stop and study your cluster. Is there a story idea there? or a memory that might suggest one?

if you don't see anything that sparks your imagination, choose another word from the list and begin another cluster. *

    What were your results?

  • Reinstated into Institute of Children's Literature

With a new instructor... starting with Lesson 2. I need to write a 750 to 1000 word story based on fantasy or "realistic fiction".

I'm a bit nervous about it... Think I can do it... it's due back to to the Institute before April 14th so I'm going to try to get it out by the end of the March. The reading of the assignment and other materials has been done... I just need to plot and write.

Okay, I'm more than nervous about it. I'm petrified! GAH... this is supposed to be for enjoyment... because I love to write... so I just gotta keep thinking like that, right?
